Module 1: Fundamentals

Explaining consent to athletes and parents

The topic

All topics

Module 1 sets one rule before a device is switched on: an informed consent process must be in place. Athletes must understand what is collected, why, with whom it is shared and for how long, and must be free to say no, with no pressure from selection. Young athletes need a parent or guardian to agree, and an explanation suited to their age. Share how you explain it.

Questions to start from

  • How do you explain to athletes, and to the parents of young athletes, what you collect and why?
  • Which question do athletes or parents ask most, and how do you answer it?
